How To "Pull it Off"

When I talk about my outfits or unique clothing choices with my friends I often hear “I couldn’t that off.” I never really thought of myself pulling things off when I wore them, it’s always been more of an “it fits, looks cool, I’ll wear it” type of thought process. I’ve learned over time that whether or not other people think I look good in something does not really matter to me (horse print overalls case in point). If I like it, I am going to wear it, and that is how I “pull things off.” Here are my five tips on how to “pull of” what you are wearing:

1) Like what you are wearing

If you don’t you are not going to feel good

2) Stand up straight

You always look better when you have good posture

3) Wear something that fits

Too big is ok, but too small is bad. You do not want to be constantly pulling a shirt down, adjusting a jacket, or checking the hem of a skirt. Also, no one looks good in too tight clothing, no one.

4) Along the same lines, wear shoes that feel good

You are walking in them the whole day, and you are not going to be happy if the hurt you.

5) Only wear the amount of makeup you usually do

I do not really wear makeup, but when I do I usually feel self-conscience.

Another Year, Another Chance to get it Right

As I said before, there are a lot of things I want to do in my life. And I’m starting now. I have a set of goals for this year, and I am going to take them on one by one. My plan is to take one goal at a time, preferably one month at a time. And I am going to do my best to make you all a part of it. My first goal I’ve already stated, I want to sell my things. This month is dedicated to crafting and selling. Mostly crafting because when interim ends I go back to school and I don’t have the time or materials to make all the things I want.

Here is just a quick outfit post to start off the New Year.

If you're going to do something, do it with style

I'm so excited! I'm finally going home on Friday for the first time since school started in August. I've missed home more than usual this semester, and the idea of being back in my home state, with my family, and seeing old sights is just making me giddy. 

I was making my list for all of the things I want to bring back to school (I forgot a lot of things), and I almost forgot to put leggings on the list (crazy right?). I love love love leggings. They are my favorite when it comes to dressing for cold weather. not only do they keep my legs nice and warm, but they add a little something to an outfit. For example, yesterday I had to dress "nice" (college student nice is not often the same thing as real world nice), and I wore leggings with my high-waisted skirt. A friend of mine commented on how she knew I wouldn't "just wear" a skirt. And that's true, I enjoy accessorizing and leggings are often a really clever way of doing that.

As much as I love leggings (and I really do), I've never gotten crafty with them. Leggings are not like the wheel, they can be reinvented. Here are some good examples:

Whats in your closet?

I love these bluefly closet confessions videos. I really love anything that gives me a look into how and way people dress the way they do. There is a fair amount of diversity in the videos, Kimora Lee Simmons, Bethenny Frankel, and Harley Viera-Newton are all featured in these videos.

It's all about the follow through

It's the last day of our little challenge. I learned I don't like to have limited or no say in what I"m wearing, and that I put more thought into outfits than others do. It's not just suspenders with a shirt, it's which shade brown suspenders with what color shirt. I like that, not enough to make a job, but I like it.

Keep on truckin

One more day to go in the challenge, and not a day too soon. I think it's safe to say that we are all ready to be done. Bean said she was excited to "wear just a t-shirt and jeans." I'll be happy to pick out my own clothing too. I love the part of my morning that I pick out my clothes, it's energizing and focusing, and it's a part of my day that's just about me.
Today Guy and I went to the art market our town has down by the river every Saturday. We were looking at a lot of the things down there and thought "we could do that." Guy has been wrapping sea glass that he got over the 4th and they look really nice (pictures will be posted soon with his permission), and I've been doing my own crafty thing. We thought it may be as bit too late in the summer to start selling now, but it is now our gaol to start selling our hand made things. I'll keep you all informed as we make steps toward that goal.





Later I had a formal birthday party to attend, so I rocked the floral dress.

I hosted a spa day for the girls in the middle school bible study I run. They came over, we did our nails and hair dressed up and went to dinner.

Star spangled spectacular

I'm home, tired, but home. Four days from home feels like a lot, and the swimming with the sun with the family can leave a body longing for a familiar bed.

The night before we all got home, our youngest cat got out. He was out all night and just got back an hour ago, he has got a few war wounds and is covered with sap. You can't wash it off and he has given up licking it off, so now one of the older sisters is stuck slowly brushing it off. Thankfully the younger cat likes being brushed more than the older one, and the younger one seems OK with it all.

Anyway, here is my 4th of July outfit, red, white, blue and all.

Does everything need a tittle?

I and most of the fam are down in Iowa for the 4th of July. I came came down with the first batch of members.

I've taken of good pictures, but it's getting late.
So here is a quick style post.

We all stopped by a the Goodwill in town, and the brother bought a pair of suspenders.

Clothes make the man. Naked people have little or no influence on society.

While in Thailand I’ve been away from my clothes. All of my thrifted, colorful, and at times off the wall clothes are in the boxes I packed them in before I headed out on my adventure. As odd as it must sound, I miss my clothing. I miss looking each morning at my collection of pieces and deciding what I will wear to match my mood. I miss playing dress every morning. Now true, it does not make sense to have my clothing collection here in the ridiculous heat. Even if I did have all of my choice pieces at my disposal I would still probably chose what I am wearing now, a t-shirt and guy shorts. I’m not even wearing any jewelry outside my cartilage ring. It is just too hot. But I know my clothes are waiting for me back in the states.
I imagine them anticipating my arrival and getting excited for me to come home and unpack them. They are ready to be worn, if only to the library and Target. And I am excited to, I’m excited to match a floral summer dress with a pair of overly loud earrings. It’s who I am, or at least a part of who I am. It’s an expression of who I am. The clothes don’t make me, I make the clothes (sometimes literally). My sense of style does not shape who I am, or even influence who I am. Instead, who I am, what I feel, and what I believe shapes what I wear. And to be fully honest, what I wear is often times just for me. Sure other people will see what I wear and that’s a part of it sometimes, but I wear what I wear because I am expressing a part of who I am. I think self expression is more for the self than it is for anyone else. If I were to stop expressing myself altogether the world wouldn’t end, the only person it would really affect is me. I don’t know what I would do if I couldn’t say how I felt in one way or another. I. Me. My. That’s what I’ve learned in my simple clothing state, what I wear is for me.

As promised, here is my new hair. I really like it, mostly because of the way my earrings look with short hair.
