Something Beautiful

Last spring break my brother was leading the worship one Sunday and I was doing backup vocals. He introduced this new song, and I remember listening to it like 500 times to I could get it down. I went back to school and listen to this song almost every day. Everything about this song explained how I felt. I wanted something more out of life, I wanted some bigger out of life. I’ve travel, seen great things, and net great people. I am always thirsting for something more, something undeniably beautiful. I have these moments in life when I realized, this is unbelievably amazing. I remember sitting on my balcony in Thailand one evening, watching the sunset, and I was hit with how beautiful life is. Not how beautiful the sky is, but how beautiful life is. I seem to be always longing for that beauty. I often get caught up in my own head, and I lose sight of the truly wonderful things outside myself. But then I’m reminded, through a song, a sight, a smell, that life is a thing of beauty. An A on a paper has never reminded me of that beauty. I want to be continually caught off guard by the greatness of life, and the gift that it is.

Pinwheels

Did you know pinwheels are supposed to bring good luck? I didn't until today. I'm thinking of making some "good luck" pinwheel earrings. I'll let you know how those turn out, but in the meantime here is another little tutorial. Here is how you make (you guessed it) pinwheels:
You can do this with one or two colors. I chose two to show you the more complicated option. Cut two circles of the same size out of felt.
Cut two pairs of slits directly across from each other, making sure to leave a little space in the middle.
Fold the corner of one slip down and sew it to the little space you left in the middle. Repeat this four times, folding down every other corner until you have this shape.
Attach a little button and voila.

Just Living is Not Enough. One Must Have Sunshine, Freedom, and a Little Flower.

I'm back to crafting again, and here is a little flower tutorial.

Super cute and super easy. You can add easily add a button to the middle to add some color. These flowers are great as a little addition to a headband or bag.

And We're On

I got back to crafting yesterday, and I started with this little card holder.
I told my family that I needed business cards. So what did I get for Christmas? Business cards!
I'm pretty sure some of my family thought I was kidding, but I really wanted business cards. I realized this semester that I am getting to the point where I need an easy way to give my information. I had to meet people for internship opportunities and the like, and it did not feel very professional writing my number on a random piece of paper. (Also my handwriting is not all that great, so I don't need to show that off). Furthermore, I'm beginning to sell some of my own things, and it's nice to have a calling card.
So anyway, now that I have business cards I decided I needed something to put them in.
And that's where this came in.

Cut out a piece of felt 4x7 inches, and a piece in a contrast felt 2x3 1/2 inches
Taking the larger piece, fold the bottom up half enough to cover your card. Then sew from the bottom of one corner to the bottom of the opposite side.

Decorate the smaller piece of felt with a design of your choice.
Finally, attach the smaller piece to the front flap of your card pouch.
I suggest ironing the card holder flat if the flap keeps popping up.

Just Call Me Miss Fix-It

The last thing on my "To-Fix" list is this lovely sweater.
The problem is that the last button broke.
But I macgyvered a solution.

And now my fixing is done and I can get back to crafting

That To-Do List Doesn't Seem to be Getting Shorter

These past few days have been about two things
The first is organizing my pile of made things. Every time I make something I just throw it on top of this mess. So I decided to add some order to this mess.
The second thing is fixing a bunch of clothing that have been damaged for over a month. My choice of pants have been limited because three of them needed to be mending.  Also a sweater, skirt, pair of leggings, and handbag.

Be One with the Paper

I've been trying my hand at a little origami lately. I've learned that magazine pages are a pretty good source of  art paper, so I've been pulling apart an old issue of the New Yorker. The pages with pictures work great because they offer a lot of color. However they do make it harder to fold, and making really small things is just a bad idea. My brother and I make some pretty cool looking ones, we just attached a pin on the back and had ourselves a neat little broach.

Another Year, Another Chance to get it Right

As I said before, there are a lot of things I want to do in my life. And I’m starting now. I have a set of goals for this year, and I am going to take them on one by one. My plan is to take one goal at a time, preferably one month at a time. And I am going to do my best to make you all a part of it. My first goal I’ve already stated, I want to sell my things. This month is dedicated to crafting and selling. Mostly crafting because when interim ends I go back to school and I don’t have the time or materials to make all the things I want.
Here is just a quick outfit post to start off the New Year.
The pants and scarf are a lovely gift from my mom, boots and sweater from Goodwill, grey tank from Target, and the earrings from Claire's
