How To "Pull it Off"

When I talk about my outfits or unique clothing choices with my friends I often hear “I couldn’t that off.” I never really thought of myself pulling things off when I wore them, it’s always been more of an “it fits, looks cool, I’ll wear it” type of thought process. I’ve learned over time that whether or not other people think I look good in something does not really matter to me (horse print overalls case in point). If I like it, I am going to wear it, and that is how I “pull things off.” Here are my five tips on how to “pull of” what you are wearing:
1) Like what you are wearing
If you don’t you are not going to feel good
2) Stand up straight
You always look better when you have good posture
3) Wear something that fits
Too big is ok, but too small is bad. You do not want to be constantly pulling a shirt down, adjusting a jacket, or checking the hem of a skirt. Also, no one looks good in too tight clothing, no one.
4) Along the same lines, wear shoes that feel good
You are walking in them the whole day, and you are not going to be happy if the hurt you.
5) Only wear the amount of makeup you usually do
I do not really wear makeup, but when I do I usually feel self-conscience.

The early bird is pissed cause it's morning

My running time is Monday, Wednesday, and Friday at 7:15 am. I'm not the best at mornings, but I'm becoming one for the sake of health. I have developed a "night before" routine to help make the mornings a little easier.
Set out the next day's outfit
Set out my workout clothes
Made the next days breakfast
And packed my bag.
This is totally helpful, and it's a nice way to end the day.

Sweet Tooth

Sweet tooth
I’ve been trying to cut back on sweets. The deserts offered in my school’s cafeteria are not exactly healthy, so I’m looking for alternative routes to satisfy my sweet tooth. Here are some of my go to foods:
Craisins
Plain yogurt with honey
Small glass of apple juice
Frozen strawberry
Apple with brown sugar

We all have goals

As I’ve posted about before, I have goals for this year. More like goals for this semester. At the end of every semester, and then again right before the beginning, I evaluate the last semester and make a list of things I want to do different or better. Also as I’ve posted before, last semester was a tough one, so there are a lot of things that I want different about this upcoming one. Since the list was too long I decided to pick a few main ones that I will focus on. I plan to take them on one at a time. The first is to get healthy, and I’ve broken it down into three steps. Exercise, food, and rest.
I have created and started a doable exercise plan for this semester. I want these changes to last, so my plan is to go slow and steady. I don’t want to go hard for the first few weeks and then not do it after that. I tried that already. Instead I’m going to start with something I know I can stick to, and then work up to the more intense. The food step is like that exercise, slow and steady. I’m not a massive unhealthy eater as is, I mean I’m a vegetarian and I make sure I am getting all the necessary nutrients. But there are some key ways that I could be better. I’ve stared by replacing my food choices with healthier options. Also, the sweets need to go. Not all of them and all the time, but I have an with issue with candy. If it is there, I will eat it. I have no self-control when it comes to candy, the bag is open one day, and empty the second. So candy is out, out of my room at least. The final step is rest. Both rest from school and actual rest. I need to take deliberate breaks, and make sure I am getting enough sleep.
I’m not trying to lose 20 pounds or anything, in fact I like the way I look and I feel no need to change it. Instead I am trying to live a well-balanced life. I want to be well balanced in mind, body, and soul. Over the last few years I have been developing a healthy lifestyle in mind and soul. But I have neglected the health of my body, and (as hippie as it sounds) I feel the imbalance. Therefore my goal is to develop habits for my body like I have for my mind and soul.
This is going to be an ongoing journey, and you are all invited.
Thus begins my first series, “healthy in college.”

Something Beautiful

Last spring break my brother was leading the worship one Sunday and I was doing backup vocals. He introduced this new song, and I remember listening to it like 500 times to I could get it down. I went back to school and listen to this song almost every day. Everything about this song explained how I felt. I wanted something more out of life, I wanted some bigger out of life. I’ve travel, seen great things, and net great people. I am always thirsting for something more, something undeniably beautiful. I have these moments in life when I realized, this is unbelievably amazing. I remember sitting on my balcony in Thailand one evening, watching the sunset, and I was hit with how beautiful life is. Not how beautiful the sky is, but how beautiful life is. I seem to be always longing for that beauty. I often get caught up in my own head, and I lose sight of the truly wonderful things outside myself. But then I’m reminded, through a song, a sight, a smell, that life is a thing of beauty. An A on a paper has never reminded me of that beauty. I want to be continually caught off guard by the greatness of life, and the gift that it is.

Pinwheels

Did you know pinwheels are supposed to bring good luck? I didn't until today. I'm thinking of making some "good luck" pinwheel earrings. I'll let you know how those turn out, but in the meantime here is another little tutorial. Here is how you make (you guessed it) pinwheels:
You can do this with one or two colors. I chose two to show you the more complicated option. Cut two circles of the same size out of felt.
Cut two pairs of slits directly across from each other, making sure to leave a little space in the middle.
Fold the corner of one slip down and sew it to the little space you left in the middle. Repeat this four times, folding down every other corner until you have this shape.
Attach a little button and voila.
