Here we go

And so it begins. This day was a little more than stressful. The whole three way outfit picking is not as smooth as I would have thought, but I am hanging in there.

Bean had a concert to go to with a friend. So Guy and I chose the Band's t-shirt and just ran with the color. The vest and skirt are buys from Ragstock.

I realized this challenge was not fully fair when I started looking at Guy's clothes. I was like "OK what shirt goes with which jeans?" But I think I did ok with the hat from Target. Lord knows where the other clothes came from.

I was second guessing the whole challenge thing when I was waiting downstairs as my sibs were in my room choosing my clothes. I don't know if you can tell, but the hat is plaid and the pin on my waist says "Junior zookeeper." Thankfully the sibs cut out the Lord of the Rings pin.

So far I have learned I micromanage outfits.

Does everything need a tittle?

I and most of the fam are down in Iowa for the 4th of July. I came came down with the first batch of members.
I've taken of good pictures, but it's getting late.
So here is a quick style post.
We all stopped by a the Goodwill in town, and the brother bought a pair of suspenders.
Pretty snazzy if you ask me

A man can be a father, but it takes a special kind of person to be a dad.

Happy Father's Day!

My Father's Day gift to my dad was a gluten free meal (dad can't have gluten). So I decided to make pad thai for him.

While in registering for classes my mom and I found an Asian and Mexican market in the town. I found my favorite noodles from Thailand (mama noodles), and I found some tamarind. Tamarind is a legume I ate in Thailand, and found in the pad thai I learned how to make. So I bought what was a block of tamarind. I had to heat it in some water and then strain out the seeds. And then I made the Pad Thai. I would post a recipe for the Pad Thai, but it changes each time a make it. I suggest searching a few pad thai recipes and see what is common in them. I did learn today though, that you DO NOT want the rice noodles too soft before you add them to the pad thai, or they will break up and have the right consistency.

In addition to pad thai, we ate egg drop, grilled shrimp, and grilled asparagus.

Instead of a pad thai, here is how you make egg drop soup (it's super easy):

Beat 4 to 6 eggs.

Bring to a boil 4 cups of chicken broth.

Slowly pour in the eggs while stirring the boiling broth.

And you have egg drop soup.

You can add pepper, onions, etc. You can also use vegetable broth for the vegetarians (my preference).

Here is my latest sewing project, an apron from two old button up shirts. I got the directions from Sewing Green: 25 Projects Made with Repurposed & Organic Materials by Betz White

Summer Lovin'

I've just gotten back from the summer orientation and class registration for my first semester of freshmen year at my new college. The idea of leaving home now does not feel doable, I mean I just got home. But I'm sure I'll be ready to leave soon enough.

Here are some pictures of my recent summer activities.
I've done some sewing, and those pictures will do coming shortly.

Well aren't you a busy little bee

I am fully aware of how late these photos are, but I have been quite busy.
I have applied for my visa for Thailand, and I just bought my plane ticket.
I am crazy excited, this trip is finally feeling real.
I will be leaving for Phuket, Thailand in January, and I will be there for 5 months.
The blog will most definitely continue. In fact, it will probably be the best way to keep up with me. And I will do my best to post regularly.
But anyways, here is the first instalment of my holiday pictures.
We start with Thanksgiving.

We never really grow up, we only learn how to act in public.

As stated earlier, today was mostly rainy and unpleasant.
However we did get some time outside, and to step in Lake Superior.
It was freaking cold.
But on with the sharing of pictures.
Here the immediate family met up with some cousins at Lake Harriet.

Notice the reflection in his glasses. I believe it was some sort of trust exercise.

I hope your summers are going well.

Good friday, isn't that a Canadian holiday?

Spring break is now coming to an end.
I fully needed this break, and am now ready to get back to school and work.
On thursday, Dad took the two younger kids and I to James J. Hill's mansion.
The place was huge, abd here are a few choice pictures.

Ryan got to play the organ there.
